EVENTS: ECOBREEDS workshop on the preservation of the dubska pramenka and sustainable livestock farming on Vlašić

On 20 August 2026, the workshop “Preservation of Indigenous Breeds and Support for Sustainable Livestock Farming” was held in Travnik. The workshop was organised by FEA and attended by representatives of the Municipality of Travnik, the Travnik Tourist Board, the Cantonal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, as well as sheep farmers and producers from the Travnik and Vlašić areas.
A particular focus was placed on the implementation of the pilot action within the ECOBREEDS project, aimed at preserving the Dubska Pramenka, a local sheep breed closely associated with traditional sheep farming and the pastoral landscape of Vlašić. Through an open discussion, primarily with sheep farmers but also with other workshop participants, the participants considered the characteristics of high-quality breeding animals, criteria for selecting ewes and rams for further breeding, and practical approaches that can contribute to the preservation of the breed.
Discussions with representatives of local institutions also explored opportunities to link the Dubska Pramenka with the sustainable use of Vlašić pastures, local products, tourism, and the economic interests of sheep farmers. The conclusions of the workshop will serve as a basis for the next phase of the ECOBREEDS Pilot Action, which will include practical activities and visits to selected farms in the Travnik and Vlašić areas.
