EVENTS: ECOBREEDS promoted at European and regional events on sustainable pastoral livestock farming

During June and July 2026, representatives of AUTH – Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Lead Partner of the ECOBREEDS project, participated in two events promoting the project and strengthening cooperation with stakeholders working on pastoral livestock farming and the conservation of local breeds.

From 30 June to 2 July 2026, ECOBREEDS was presented at the XIV European Mountain Convention on Extensive Livestock Farming in Mountain Areas in Sallanches, France. The project was promoted during the workshop “Economic viability in practice: structuring and expanding livestock value chains”, with particular attention to the economic viability of pastoral livestock farming and its importance for farmers, local value chains and sustainable and resilient mountain communities. The event provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences with stakeholders from across Europe.

On 29 July 2026, the AUTH team also participated in a stakeholder workshop in Kalamata, Greece, focused on challenges, opportunities and policy measures related to local breeds and pastoral livestock farming. ECOBREEDS and its planned Pilot Actions were presented, highlighting the importance of active stakeholder involvement in their successful implementation. The roundtable brought together representatives of local and regional authorities, Chambers, livestock farmers and agronomists to discuss measures for strengthening livestock farming and supporting the conservation of local breeds.

Participation in both events contributed to promoting ECOBREEDS objectives, exchanging good practices and strengthening cooperation with stakeholders involved in sustainable pastoralism and local livestock breed conservation.
