NEWS: ECOBREEDS at the Crocifisso Fair: Promoting Local Breeds, Rural Heritage and Biodiversity

The ECOBREEDS partner UNIVPM – Università Politecnica delle Marche participated in the Crocifisso Fair in Castel di Lama, Italy, an event bringing together breeders, local communities and agricultural traditions and showcasing the diversity of local livestock breeds and their strong connection with the territory.
The event provided an important opportunity to raise awareness about the conservation and sustainable use of local animal genetic resources. Local breeds represent an important part of rural heritage and play a significant role in maintaining traditional livestock farming systems adapted to specific environmental and territorial conditions.
Particular attention was given to the role of pastoral systems in biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services. Sustainable livestock farming contributes to the management of rural landscapes and natural resources while supporting the resilience and vitality of rural areas.
Through its participation, UNIVPM promoted the objectives and activities of the ECOBREEDS project, highlighting the importance of protecting local breeds and strengthening sustainable pastoral systems across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
Events such as the Crocifisso Fair also provide valuable opportunities to connect breeders, local communities, researchers and other stakeholders, exchange knowledge and increase public awareness of the environmental, cultural and socio-economic value of local breeds.
Through ECOBREEDS, project partners continue working to ensure that local breeds, pastoral knowledge and rural heritage are preserved and sustainably valorised, contributing to more resilient rural communities and a more diverse and sustainable future for agriculture.
